When data needs to be encoded in a barcode, the script will format the data and return a character string that will create an accurate barcode when combined with the appropriate Universal Font. As a reference, two files included in the Universal Barcode Font Package, AppleScript_Excel_Example.xls and the AppleScript_Excel_Example_IDAutomation128b.scpt file can be used as a guide. Available in the licensed version only.

*Open the Excel Example or a new Excel spreadsheet.

*In Column A, enter test data for rows A1, A2, and A3. In the example rows 1 through 3 of Column A already contain data.

*Save the Excel file.

*Open the AppleScript Editor and spreadsheet that will be used. (Ex: AppleScript_Excel_Example.xls)

*Paste the code below into the AppleScript file. If the sample script file is being used, the code has already been placed in the script. Make sure that only one Excel worksheet is running.

NOTE: AppleScript_Excel_Example.xls is a working example using the following code. When using a different spreadsheet, the code will need to be modified to match the column and row set up.

*Save the changes, then compile and run the script. The Excel spreadsheet now contains encoded data in cells B1 through B3 on the example spreadsheet. set EncodedCell to ('B' & i) ensures that the encoded data is sent from the script directly to Column B. To send the data to another column, simply enter the Column letter.

*Change the font of the formula field to the IDAutomation Universal Font and set the point size. This is a very important step; if this is not done, barcodes will not be displayed. If unsure of the point size, IDAutomation recommends 12 points.

*Print and scan the barcode(s) to verify the correct data is encoded. If a scanner is needed to verify barcodes, IDAutomation offers their USB Barcode Scanner.

Barcodes, in general, are codes which can be only readable by machines, they are basically lines and bars which are codes for characters, barcodes in excel are fonts which represents characters we provide, in excel by default we do not have any font available for barcodes, we need to install a separate font in order to use barcodes in excel from a third party. Option to Create New Sheet: In addition to this, the application allows the user to create N number of custom forms. The data entry has been made simple with the Barcode to Sheet, Barcode to CSV, Barcode to XML feature. More than just a Barcode scanner: The application allows you to scan, read or capture any of the major code scanning systems. How To Set Up A Barcode Scanner With Excel For Mac Free

I'm trying to get a USB laser barcode scanner to work on my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.8.2). And for some reasons, it does not work.

First, I bought a Taotronics TT-BS003. When I plug it in, it does make all the sounds it should do. Dxcpl directx 11 emulator. It scans, but it does not write anything in TextEdit.

Looking at the System Information in the USB section, it shows:

 WIT 122-UFS V2.00:

 Product ID: 0x1010

Vendor ID: 0x05fe (CHIC TECHNOLOGY CORP)

 Version: 0.01

 Speed: Up to 1.5 Mb/sec

 Manufacturer: WIT Electron Company

 Location ID: 0x06200000 / 4

 Current Available (mA): 500

 Current Required (mA): 500

If I plug this scanner on a PC laptop with Windows 7, the reader scans out of the box and puts the code in Word. Back to the Mac, nothing other then the green light for a successful scan and the ok sound.

After talking to their support, it was recommended to return the scanner.

So I bought a “different” scanner from a different vendor. But after receiving that scanner, it seems to be the same scanner just with a different brand name.

Looking at the System Information in the USB section, it also shows:

 WIT 122-UFS V2.00:

 Product ID: 0x1010

Vendor ID: 0x05fe (CHIC TECHNOLOGY CORP)

 Version: 0.01

 Speed: Up to 1.5 Mb/sec

 Manufacturer: WIT Electron Company

 Location ID: 0x04100000 / 4

 Current Available (mA): 500

 Current Required (mA): 500

So how can I get these scanners to work on a Mac. Some people left feedback that they had it working out of the box. One person wrote:Barcode Scanner Online

If using it with a Mac, follow these steps: 1) connect it to a USB port on your Mac (the scanner should beep twice). 2) Go into System Preferences and click on Keyboard. 3) Click 'Change Keyboard Type..' which will bring up the Keyboard Setup Assistant. 4) Click Continue and scan a barcode (can be a UPC label from a package / book). 5) Select 'ANSI (United States and others) and click Done.

Well, I scan a barcode but I can never reach the section where I can select 'ANSI (United States and others).

I’m just losing my mind over this. Any idea? And please, the manual is a joke. The scans do not help.
